It's a wet chilly fall day and I'm so glad I've been working on bright and cheery projects in the shop this week. I just finished this gracious green print paperback wedding guest book and it's merrily on it's way to it's new owner.
I've been feeling out of sink lately. We'll blame it on this wacky weather here in PA, but it's good to be back into the groove of getting my custom orders made for my customers. I can't wait to hear that this precious book has arrived safely for its intended couple.

Green Elegance Wedding Guest Book
We went through seeing this book in The Design Process, and then a few post later in the finished details of the triple stitched binding. Today, I'm showcasing this wedding guest book in honor for the couple it was made for.
This was a custom order designed and created for a gift to the bride from a dear friend.
As you can see, the orginal design was for red butterflies, but we switched the pages to the floral swag stamp in red. Beautiful.
Wishing this couple a blessed marriage.

Elegance Wedding Guest Book - Custom Order
Remember the design from a last week's post titled, The Design Process?
Well, I finished it yesterday.
What do you think?

I don't want to show you too much of this wedding guest book album, as you will be seeing it again on one of my June 19, 2011 posts.
However, I couldn't help myself from showing off the triple binding in trio colors. I have to say, this was the first time I'd tried to bind in three different colors and am quite impressed. I love the color varation. Don't you?

The Design Process
I appologize for being absent these past few days. Sometimes one must just go off and renew their creative thinking. Like attending a craft show as a shopper instead of a vendor.
This past weekend was the spring craft fair at a local high school. I can't say I can home empty handed, but was delighted to see all the new ideas and talents of others. I wish I had taken my camera just to give you all a glimpse of the show.
When I came home, I've been working on some custom order request. Pictured above is a design I've been working on the past day and a half of a customer. It wasn't until I stepped away from this for a while, that I was able to come back and combined the colors and theme.
Green, yellow, and red.
Butterflies and florish
Formal Wedding Style
Most designers have trays or boards they used when putting together elements of a design. I just lay them out on the table and like a puzzle it all comes together. Like this one.
What you see above will soon become a 8" x 8" hardback wedding guest book album with pale yellow fabric binding and yellow photo pages. The cover will be the green florish paper you see, and the pages will be white with a stamped design.
In the meantime, I've got other hardback covers in the press that will soon need binding, and another custom order to finish up by the end of the week.
I just love custom orders. It's all in the design process, don't you think?

Leaf Guest Book Album
Normally, I like to give my albums a title. What's a book without a title right? This album we're simply going to call "Panda". My oldest daughter said the designed reminded her of Pandas. Her best friend likes Pandas and everyone knows Panda's like to eat bamboo leaves. That's what reminded her of the Pandas...the leaves.
I thought they looked more like palm leaves, but who am I to argue with the mind of an eight-year-old?
So.. PANDA it is.
As you can see, once the parchment paper dried, it came out very nice. I cut it to size and laid it in as our first page. You can see through the parchment paper to the next page of the book. I actually did a cut out of leaf and the green you see is the next page attached.
It's a perfect page for writing in the name, date, or event of this album.
As you can see in these two photos, I added some special photo pages. Like my other albums, you can slide a 3.5" x 5" photo graph into the rounded corners of these pre-designed areas. I added some dimensional and stamped and glittered leaves along with some simple word usage like: believe, hope, cherish. In between the green photo pages are ivory card stock pages stamped with a single leaf.
Since all the pages of this album are acid-free and lingign-free. These blank pages can be used for signatures and well wishes for a guest book or additional photographs for a lovely album.
And it wouldn't be a MRsCHADT handcrafted book without my new signature book pouches.
This one I stamped with the same green leaf that I used in the album. I took some green netting for the closure and a simple white bead.
My favorite feature of this album is the see through parchment page stamped and traced in glitter. What do you like best?
You'll find it, along with many of my others in my shop at http://www.mrschadt.etsy.com/

This Little Light of Mine
There's an old saying about good things which come in small packages. My postman brought me such a package not long ago from a surprising source. Who would have thought my local electric company could make me feel like a kid again?
But then your asking yourself, who in their right mind, gets excited about receiving a light bulb? Yep, that's right, they sent me a light bulb, two actually, and not just any ordinary light bulbs - Compact Florescent Light Bulbs.
I found myself humming the lyrics to This little light of mine all afternoon.
While my children may be too young to understand the significance of a light bulb, as a mother I appreciate a single light bulb as much as I do as saving a few dollars on my grocery bill each month. Of course, who can refuse something when its FREE!!
The light bulbs were the result of responding to a flyer sent to us after signing on as new customers at www.pplelectric.com. I opened them immediately and swapped out two of my regular incandescent bulbs and put in my new ones. The light was the same, bright, steady, 60 watts like we've always used. Except the difference I can't see looking at the shining light will come on my electic bill over the life time of use of the bulbs.
Who would have thought one little bulb could save me so much money, and create so much light using so little energy. CFL's (Compact Florescent Lights) use50-80% less energy than our regular incandescent bulbs making them enviromentally freindly. Just one bulb will keep 1/2 ton of CO2 out of the atmosphere. Doesn't really seem like a lot does it?
So what do you suppose would happen if we all ran out and bought just two energy saving light bulbs and swapped them with two of our old lights in our homes? We'd be able to power a city with 3 million people for a year or the equivlant to 2.6 million cars taken off the road. Even one bulb swapped out would save enough energy to turn off two power plants!
I immediately went out to Walmart. Just one little light, actually they came in a four packs, cost me $7.58. One little light bulb cost me just $1.90, and I won't have to change any of my light bulbs again for 7-10 years. YEARS!!! No more teetering on a chair with arm outstretched in the dark trying to replace a blown out globe at inappropriate moments of the day. Not only that, that little bulb is going to save me an estimated $38 during it's life time of use. Broken down, it's about fifty cents a day. Gosh, if you think of it like my kids do - a candy bar or a can of soda per day. But as a mother of three, I find there's another reward much greater than a candy bar, the money saved per year, is the energy savings it also produced.
But if your a mathmatician, like my husband, think of it this way. We have 22 lights in our home, and all have been replaced with new CFL's. 22 x $.50 a day is $11 a day, $33 a month, $ 396 a year. If each light is good for 10 years that's a total savings of $3,960 for my household.
How many lights are in your home?
It only takes one to start saving - saving money, and saving our environment to secure the future of our children for another generation to come.
So this little light of mine, well let's just say, I'm gonna let it shine!!
