Vintage Themed Baby Shower

I love it when you all send me photos of my books at your baby showers, weddings, and other events.

Remember the gray vintage themed baby shower book from a few weeks ago?

Here is the photo I received from the shower.

Blue and Gold Banquet

Boy's troop celebrated the birthday of scouting with the annual blue and gold banquet. All the boys decorated snowmen for center pieces and had a blast!

The Princess Plan

I grabbed this book off of Amazon last week, only because it was free. I'm not real big on non-fiction dieting books, but since Mr. Chad and I have been trying to be more healthy this year I decided what harm could it do. It was free! (I think right now it's running for like $2.99).

Anyway, I downloaded it to my computer's ebook reader and it made me think. Once you get past the medical jargon about women's bodies, it makes some rather good points.

Here are just a few that made me stop and think:

* Most diet books are written by men and don't take into account the difference between the male and female body.
* Women store fat when stressed
* Think beautiful is to think healthier.

We'll see.... I need to finish reading the book.

Sunday Share

This Jones Design Company print is one of my favorite pins this week on Pintrest. I have got two old black frames and now I know what to do with them and where to put them. This bible verse that is printed across the chair is one that our family lives by. "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord".

My dream desk. For these sluggish cold days when you don't want to leave the house. Goes back to Mr Chad and I trying to get the health kick going in the house. Too bad sports and exercise companies don't give out free samples of treadmills. I'd totally try this one out and give it a review. Perhaps someday, It's on the got to save up for it list.

I have got to find the tutorial to make these. I miss my Chick and Hen plants from our old home near Morgantown, WV. My Home Sweet Home shared this idea, and I had to pin it!

Something caught your eye this week or have hold of your heart? I'd love to see it or read about it, please share the link or your thoughts below in the comments section.

Getting Crabby Around Here

Meet Bill and George.

They are our new resident hermit crabs. I suppose that officially makes them part of the family now.

Boy is so thrilled to have his very own pets. He has read, re-read, and re-read again the care instructions that the college aged girl gave him at Pet Smart.

George is actually kind of shy. Bill, on the other hand, has no problem coming out of his shell. He has already tried out his pinchers on Bug's little finger. He was very lucky she dropped him on a soft surface and didn't toss him after he hurt her.

Boy claims that they're not just ordinary hermit crabs. Nope, they're secret agent hermit crabs. Why else would they only come out at night and stay hidden during the day? When they're not planning they're next mission inside the coco hut, they're hanging from a branch on a tree in their crab habitat that Boy created for them.

He made them their very own special food box using his legos. You can kinda see the corner of it in the photo. I'll have more photos to share shortly. Boy's been planning on video taping them at night since he never sees them out of their shell during the day.

And no, hermit crabs are not really hermits. They actually don't like to be alone, and they do much better when they have a friend or two to room with.

Perhaps that is why Boy choose these crabby critters for room mates. Being the only male sibling, you'd think he'd love it having a room to himself, but he was lonely and now he has crabby friends to keep him company.

His and Her Lunch Boxes

Last weekend, while I was out doing my grocery shopping, I ran across these cute little lunch boxes by Sistma. Being the thrifty and frugal wife that I am, I do most of my shopping at our local Aldi's. They only had these two lunch boxes left.

What luck! One pink and one green. Definitely his and her lunch boxes.

Mr. Chad and I have been trying to be a little more healthy with our food choices, especially now that we are both "packers" in the opinion of the kiddos. There are three compartments. One large compartment for a sandwich  or in our case a salad, and two smaller compartments for some cut up fruit, chips, or sandwich wraps.

And look, the pink on my lunch box matches the pink lunch bag that Bug loaned me when I went to work full-time. I admit, we got it at a church rummage sale and she thought it was a purse for her toys, then we got it home and it was a lunch bag. So she said, "Here Momma, you can take your lunch to work in style."

Wasn't that so thoughtful?

Now, to find a bunch of lunch recipes and snacks for packing inside our his and her lunch boxes.

Mr. Chad loved the idea, now he always knows which lunch is his to take from the refrigerator. :)

Sock Match Making

If there is one thing that annoys me most when doing laundry is matching socks.

I almost feel like there there is this dreadful sock monster that comes in night and sorts through all the socks and takes the one that most appeals to him. It's never the dirty or worn socks. It's always the new ones that seem to pile up with out mates.

If socks could put out classifieds, they would probably say something like:

Wanted:
Freshly laundered, grey heeled, green striped gal, seeking her long lost sole mate.

If only socks could really take out classified to find their match. Instead, I keeping waiting for the sock fairy to mysteriously appear and do the match making for me. But until then, I'll keep sorting, and piling, and holding onto socks without matches.

Eventually, after three rounds of laundry, I just give them a toss into the singles bag. After I've collected enough singles I give the bag away. There is always someone using unmatched socks for making or stuffing something.

If only every sock could find its match....sigh... then there would be no more cold toes.

Do you have some kind of match making method for your socks? What helps you keep them together?

Recycled Valentine Boxes

We picked up baked goods at the grocery store last weekend as a treat. Bell didn't have the heart to toss the plastic muffin and cookie containers away, so we decided to recycle them.

Check out the girl's valentine boxes. Aren't they sweet?

This one was made by Bug. Didn't she do a great job?

And here is Bell's valentine box. She used some cut outs I had left from my cricut and left over scrapbook paper.

Boy didn't want to make one. Apparently, valentine boxes are only for girls.  I think it has something to do with all the pink and red for the day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

One Billion Rising

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

I wanted to share this inspiring video with you all. No matter who you are, no one has the right to abuse you. On the day we celebrate love, I hope you'll rise up, dance, and strike a pose against violence to women.

String of Hearts Banner

I don't usually do a lot of decorating for Valentine's day, but I got this simple and cute idea from over at Megity's Handmade Blog. They didn't take long to make the kids and I had fun putting them together. I think Bug just liked using my pink stapler while Bell put the strips together with me and Boy picked the paper designs.

We used some red and with baker's twine to hang them across the archway in the dinning room. (Sorry the picture is a little fuzzy, I'm still learning how to use this new phone camera.)

I might just leave this string of hearts up after valentine's day, but we'll see. I'm sure the kids will want to make something new for the next holiday.

What do you think? Can I keep my string of hearts banner up always?

Plastic Canvas Valentine Hearts Barrette

It wouldn't be Valentine's Day if you didn't have something heart shaped or red to wear, right?

This triple heart plastic canvas Valentine Hearts Barrette is super cute for your little lady's hair.

I used a one inch barrette on the back. You can get backs of 10 at your local Wal-Mart or craft store.

Here is the simple hearts pattern I created. I'd love to see how yours turns out!

Don't have time to stitch one up of your own?  No problem, leave a comment below or on my Facebook page and tell me your favorite thing about Valentine's day. I'll pick three lucky people on Tuesday by random selection and send you a heart barrette of your very own for that special girl in your life. :)

Valentine Pages

In honor of Valentine's Day I've designed a new page for my guest books.

What better day to commit to one another, plan a romantic event, or have an anniversary then Valentine's Day.

My oldest sister was married on Valentine's day, and February is, after all, heart month.

Littlest Pet Shop Plastic Canvas Pet Bed

It's been pretty chilly outside and with just getting over the flu, the girls and I have been doing some creating. Bug decided she needed a new pet bed for her littlest pet shop puppy, Pudge.

I came up with this plastic canvas littlest pet shop pet bed design and whipped it up. I'm thinking Pudge needs a blanket or a pillow for his bed, or maybe both. So we'll have to work on that this week.

I'm working on a rug and toy for him to complete this set.

What do you think, line the bed with felt?or fabric?

Pattern will be available shortly. :)
